Australian Federal Budget 2017-18 – Tax and Accounting Overview

The Australian Federal Budget 2017-18 was handed down on 9 May 2017 by the Treasurer, Mr Scott Morrison. The main focus of the budget was to boost the economy and households.

This has principally included a package of tax, superannuation and other measures to address housing affordability.
The Budget also contains a range of measures intended to ensure the integrity of the tax and superannuation system. These include a range of measures which are addressed directly at foreign resident taxpayers to increase liabilities and recoveries.
